This is ‘Cranky’ Whistlebare’s circular sock knitting machine A modern development of the fabulous cast machines that knitted the troops’ socks in the First World War. Cranky can knit stocking stitch, ribbing, stripes and even short rows for heels and toes and is very busy all the time knitting Cuthbert’s Hand Cranked Socks and Mitts and Smiling Goat Scarves.
Yeavering Bell is a soft and gleaming yarn. It is a blend of mohair from our herd of angora goats and Wensleydale wool from our own sheep. Both of these fleeces are long staple and high lustre and they blend together perfectly. The yarn is worsted spun to accentuate the lustrous and luxurious nature of the fibres which dye beautifully. Garments knitted from Yeavering Bell have a beautiful natural drape, and with care will last forever.
